Cheers to The Weekend | Wine-Man

This week, we are introducing you to someone very special to us – Wine-Man.

Ian’s love of wine began in the mid 1980’s whilst working in France as part of his degree course. Living in Bourges, situated conveniently half an hour from Sancerre, a love of food and wine matching was born and a long term friendship with Sancerre grower, Jean Reverdy began.

Wine-Man was started in 1999. Jean Reverdy became the first grower to be signed up for the company portfolio. Ian was joined by his wife, Paula as a director of the company which was initially run from the hallway and utility room of their home in Streatley. Office and warehouse premises soon followed initially in Ashampstead and currently from their shop premises in Yattendon.

Wine-Man sources and supplies wines from all over the world selling them to private clients, restaurants, pubs and caterers. They import directly from producers in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy and use the excellent network of UK based agents to source wines from the New World. The buying policy is simple – to select wines which offer a great quality to price ratio – wines which reflect the enthusiasm and energy of the winemakers who made them – wines which are as far away as possible from the bulk wines sourced for UK bottling by the large supermarkets. The Yattendon shop is the focus of Wine-Man’s private client sales with regular Saturday tasting days.

We wanted to introduce you to Wine-Man because he plays a big part in the world of The Wild Fork. Without Ian, we would not have our fantastic wine list to compliment our extensive menus. Wine-Man has also offered wine tastings at a handful of our events, which add a really unique part to any event. Our menus and wine list work in perfect harmony; the below dishes can all be found elsewhere on the blog, and the matched wines are all available from Wine-Man.
